As the only Neuroscience Center in the state, we provide care for patients across Arkansas, within the region and even internationally. Our focus is always on an individualized care plan for each patient – and how to integrate care with family life. We offer Family Support Services to assist with any needs during appointments or your stay at Arkansas Children’s. These services, including Child Life Specialists, help our families manage daily living or issues that arise unexpectedly. 

Neurology and Neurosurgery Outcomes

Our Neurology and Neurosurgery experts provide the highest level of care, utilizing leading therapies and approaches to disease management. Arkansas Children’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is a Level 4 Epilepsy Center accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. Our epileptologists have the professional expertise, facilities and technology to provide unmatched medical and surgical evaluation and treatment.

By the Numbers

100% Surgical survival rate for these procedures:

  • Brain tumors (out of 22 patients)
  • Hydrocephalus patient shunts (out of 102 patients)
  • Medically intractable epilepsy (out of 43 patients)
  • Spina bifida (out of 21 patients)
  • Chiari I malformation (out of 29 patients)
  • Craniotomies for trauma (out of 20 patients)
  • Postnatal and in utero repair of myelomeningocele (out of five patients)

Seizure Outcomes

  • 100% of focal resective epilepsy surgical patients were seizure-free after 12 months
  • 100% of extra-temporal lobe epilepsy surgical patients were seizure-free after 12 months
  • 100% of temporal lobe epilepsy surgical patients were seizure-free after 12 months
  • 100% of patients treated by functional hemispherectomy who were seizure-free after 12 months

Awards and Achievements

  • Ranked No. 29 by U.S. News & World Report (2024-25)
  • Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International named the first three-year accreditation for ACH’s Inpatient Rehabilitation ProgramsHospital (pediatric specialty program).
  • Gregory W. Albert, M.D., performed the first laser interstitial thermal therapy on a pediatric epilepsy patient at ACH. The first NeuroBlate procedure was performed June 24, 2024.
  • One of only 12 pediatric spinal muscular atrophy centers in the U.S.
  • Providing remote EEG monitoring at Arkansas Childen’s Northwest to keep patients closer to home. The first EEG was May 2024.
