Employee Standards
Our team members are at the core of everything we do. While we celebrate the unique perspectives, experiences, and diversity of our team, there are certain standards by which all employees should abide.
Arkansas Children's requires a dress code that reflects a professional image that is neat, clean and fosters trust. By taking pride in our personal appearance, we establish our hospital as a place of safe and compassionate care for our patients and families. The Arkansas Children's dress code will grant accommodations to this policy for medical and religious requests.
- Neat and Well-Groomed
Employees are expected to be neat and well-groomed during work hours and when representing the hospital after-hours. Torn, ragged hemlines for slacks, scrubs or uniform attire are not acceptable. Scrub bottoms should not drag the floor.
- Badges
All team members must wear their badges with pride in an upright, readable position on the outermost layer of clothing (including lab coats or sweaters). Badges must be worn in the shoulder area or on lanyard. Some safety sensitive positions may restrict wearing a lanyard. The badge should not be worn attached to a belt or other piece of clothing at waist level. Team members' badge photos must be visible. Do not put stickers or other markings on badges.
- Hair
Team members must keep their hair neat and clean and maintained in a style that does not interfere with job performance.
- Tattoos
Arkansas Children's employees may have visible tattoos, as long as they follow certain criteria. Tattoos that are offensive to patients, family members, co-workers or others in the workplace based on characteristics of a sensitive nature or not legally protected must be covered.
- Jewelry
Team members may wear jewelry if it doesn't interfere with their jobs.
To ensure the safety of our employees and patients, certain vaccinations and tests are required. Each year employees will be asked to complete a TB screening and receive an annual flu vaccination as a condition of employment.
New hires must demonstrate compliance with this policy before reporting to work. Exemption requests should be discussed with Occupational Health at the time the offer is extended.
The Arkansas Children’s Code of Conduct applies to everyone who works for or on behalf of Arkansas Children’s or its subsidiaries, as well as anyone serving in any role on an AC campus or in an AC facility.
The Code reflects our values of Safety, Teamwork, Compassion and Excellence and supports our mission to champion children by making them better today and healthier tomorrow.
1. We act with integrity. We demonstrate honesty, sound judgment, responsibility and respect in our work and in our interactions with patients, families, colleagues and the community.
2. We follow the law and our policies. We take personal responsibility for understanding and applying the rules that guide our work. We ask questions and seek help when we are unsure.
3. We work safely. We follow health and safety guidelines, support a drug-free workplace and speak up about risks or concerns. We contribute to a culture of safety by reducing risk, improving processes and building on what we learn.
4. We protect privacy and confidentiality. We access, use and share sensitive information only as law and policy allow. We are careful with what we see, hear and say, and we use technology and data systems responsibly to safeguard personal, medical and financial information.
5. We treat one another with respect. We expect everyone to communicate professionally, work cooperatively, and support a safe environment. We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, bullying, intimidation, or other behavior that compromises physical or psychological safety.
6. We keep accurate and complete records. We ensure that patient care, billing, research and operations records are timely, thorough and truthful.
7. We avoid conflicts of interest. We make decisions based on what is best for our patients and the organization, not for actual or perceived personal gain or outside influence.
8. We do not offer or accept improper gifts or favors. We do not offer or accept anything that could create a sense of obligation, influence a decision or appear to compromise our principles or integrity.
9. We use Arkansas Children’s resources responsibly. We use financial, physical, digital and time resources responsibly and to support our mission.
10. We speak up when something is not right. We raise concerns honestly and sincerely and support others who do the same. We participate in investigations and help strengthen a culture of trust. Retaliation is never acceptable.
