We-Move Study

All research studies require potential participants to be screened. This is simple and conducted over the phone in about 5-10 minutes.

We-Move is research study through the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences designed to test a movement and healthy eating program for mothers and their children. This study is for moms who have excess weight and are interested in movement and healthy eating ideas for themselves and their children.
Study Eligibility
We are seeking mother- child pairs. The mothers must have a BMI over 30. The child must be between the ages of 3 and 5.
Study Requirements
If you decide to participate in this study, you will be randomized into one of two groups. Both groups will be involved in the study until the participant and child health assessments are completed at the beginning and end of a 4-month span. Group One will continue following usual practices for your family and usual advise from your doctors, and Group Two will be invited to join a movement and healthy eating program (We-Move).
If you are randomized to We-Move, you will be asked to do the following:

Participate in 18 weeks of activities including:
- 2 in-person sessions at the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center (ACNC) in Weeks 1 -6
- 1 in-person session and 1 digital session in Weeks 7-12
- 1- 2 digital sessions in Weeks 13 -18 ; there will be 3 in-person sessions in these last 3 weeks
- Recommended “homework” activities for you and your child (30 min per week)
- Wear a FitBit and log your step counts weekly.
- Complete an assessment for you and your child at the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center.
You will receive monetary compensation for attending program sessions and for completing the assessments. You will receive non-monetary incentives that include the FitBit and access to the We-Move program and supporting resources (e.g., materials to support at-home cooking and activity).
If you are randomized to the control group, you will be asked to do the following:
- Wear a FitBit and log your step counts weekly
- Complete an assessment for you and your child at the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center.
You will receive monetary compensation for completing study assessments and step count logs. We will provide you with the FitBit. All research studies require potential participants to be screened. This is simple and conducted over the phone in about 5-10 minutes to learn more about your health and any other pertinent information that relates to the study.
