Study Overview

The First Foods Study is a nutrition research project exploring how breastmilk and the introduction of solid foods affect gut health in infants.

Study Eligibility

We are seeking mothers and their infants who are exclusively breastfed and have not yet started on solid foods

Study Requirements

Participants will need to attend two study visits when the baby is between 3-6 months old.

Visit Details:

  • First Visit: Scheduled within 2-3 weeks of starting solid foods. This visit will last about two hours and included:
    • Medical history questions
    • Nursing session with weight measurements before and after
    • Mom's three-day food diary
    • Collection of breast milk and baby's stool samples at home, to be returned within 24 hours
  • Second Visit: Scheduled after the baby has been eating solid foods for at least two weeks. Similar to the first visit, it includes:
    • Medical history questions
    • Nursing session with weight measurements before and after
    • Three-day food diary for both mom and baby
    • Collection of breast milk and baby's stool samples at home, to be returned within 24 hours

Compensation

Participants will receive a two-month supply of diapers (one month for each visit). Additional diapers may be provided if a repeat visit is required.
