Dr. Laura James serves as the Director of the Translational Research Institute (TRI) and Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical and Translational Research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). TRI is home to the UAMS Clinical and Translational Science Award. Dr. James’ research focus at ACH is on acetaminophen toxicity and addresses the development of a rapid assay for the diagnosis of acetaminophen-related acute liver injury. The assay in development is an immunoassay that can be used at the point-of-care to provide a qualitative determination of acetaminophen liver injury. The assay will elucidate the cause of liver injury in complex cases and may reduce the need for other diagnostic tests in this patient population. James also serves as the Co-Principal Investigator of the Arkansas Pediatric Center for Advanced Therapeutics at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute, one of 17 pediatric centers throughout the United States funded to perform clinical research studies in children.
