For over 20 years, Dr. Steinbach has led an NIH-funded multi-disciplinary clinical care and research program supporting immunosuppressed children. He currently runs an active research laboratory studying the pathogenesis of invasive fungal infections, and he also founded and is the Director of the International Pediatric Fungal Network, a global consortium of 55 clinical research sites. He has co-edited four major infectious diseases textbooks and authored over 200 scientific papers.
He holds of Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame, a medical degree from the University of North Carolina, and completed a pediatric residency at Stanford University and a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at Duke University. He was selected by the NIH as one of eight Pediatric Scientist Development Program fellows during his training.
